How Long Does It Really Take To Trial A New Skincare Product?

There’s a lot of miscommunication when it comes to how fast particular products work. Can’t say we blame you either, there’s a whole lot of false advertising going on and somewhat fake news out there. One might say 12hrs, another 12 weeks – so who’s right?

If we’re being perfectly honest with you, we’re not that sure. We’re not experts…but what we can tell you is that depending on the brand, the product and it’s ingredients – they’re all going to change no matter what.

As a general rule of thumb, you really won’t see any results until after a full cycle of skin cell turn over.

BUT…generally speaking, you can work off the below generalisations.

Moisturiser

Depending on your skin type, you’ll pretty much see an instantaneous result. With most of its full effect coming into play after a couple of weeks. This does obviously depend on how dry and neglected your skin has been though, so don’t go expecting results if it’s been a few days, even weeks since you last gave them some love! It is however, recommended for even better results, to make sure that whatever product you’re using, it has SPF in it – as any damage from the sun can counteract or draw back its benefits.

Anti-aging / Anti-wrinkle

With these, do not in any circumstance expect to look or feel younger after only one day. Regardless of whatever the packaging says, you have to give these guys a go for at least 2-4 weeks, applying twice daily. With even more improvement showing (if you continue using) in the weeks that follow.

Exfoliators

Obviously if you’re using it to remove a fake tan then yes, you’ll see instant results. But in terms of your face, you could start to see results after a few days. Although, typically speaking, if you haven’t seen actual physical results after around 10 days, best to try an alternative. Perhaps look at the varying concentrations and how frequent you’re applying to work out the best one for your skin type.

Cleansers & Toners

Pretty much straight away. At least with a cleanser, you can feel your face ridding its toxins and oils. Dirt and make-up are removed, your skin feels softer and more even-toned. However, for a more consistent and actual skin transformation, you’d best trial it for at least 4 weeks. Again this will depend on your skin type and the type of cleanser you’re using i.e. gel vs cream.

Acne Treatments

Total variation and highly dependent on what skin type and what products are used. Over the counter products can take up to three months to show changes and medical prescriptions – up to six weeks. For this one, it’s best to actually talk to your Dr though.
