Announcing Christopher Esber and Beauty Department by Nadine Monley
These two creators have one thing in common: simplicity. An immaculate canvas is always the basis of their designs. This Spring/Summer 15/16, Beauty Department by Nadine Monley created two powerful makeup looks and flawless bodies to compliment Christopher Esber’s presentation.
With the collection inspired by towelling-meets-tailoring, late 20th century Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass, the unfinished artworks of Rembrandt, and the attitudes of the women that surround him, Monley worked with the designer to elevate the presentation.
To start, she created her classic Beauty Department pure skin – think young and unspoiled. To achieve the flawless complexions, clean skin was massaged to get circulation flowing and create even tone, the multi-purpose Jao Brand Goe Oil was liquified and heated between palms then pressed onto skin, a touch of foundation and concealer was applied, and contouring was only done where needed. Using the Beauty Department Precision Sponge, Monley and her team created quick and flawless finishes – an essential backstage at the fast- paced fashion week. An easy to use makeup applicator that is perfect for sensitive skin, the Precision Sponge can be used with liquid, cream and powder products. When dampened, the larger tip and side is ideal for blending (use in swift, upwards strokes for sculpting), while the smaller tip applies product into the finer areas.
Half of the models were given a glossy pop of pink across the lids to complement Esber’s fresh collection and contrast the green found in the set, while the other half went natural, with a little clear gloss on the eyelids and lips so the models’ natural pigments were the focus. Eyes went mascara-free to allow the fresh, sculpted faces to be the highlight along with the designs.
